Who can use the EMR4DW System?

1.    DESIGN OF SOFTWARE
• The software is designed to be of benefit in rural third world health situations. It is simple to use so quick to train how to work. Our experience in Uganda tells us people who have never seen a computer before can use the system within 24-48 hours training
• The functionality of the system is robust enough to be of value in primary care clinics and some hospital settings
• It is important to be aware you do not have to use all the functions of the system for it to be helpful
• It is expected small parts of the functionality will benefit different health settings
• See below for examples

2.    HEALTH CENTERS IN PRIMARY CARE
• It is designed such that these clinics will use the maximum functionality on the system

3 HIV/AIDS COMMUNITY MONITORING OUTPOSTS
• Personal details give database of all patients with this diagnosis
• Nutritional state can be logged and monitored in individual patients.
• Free text can be entered in consultation box to outline compliance, drug regime, any progress made and problems encountered

4.    IMMUNIZATION CENTERS
• These clinics could use the extensive data inputting of immunisations given and the dates
• This keeps a readily accessible record for each patient

5.    ANTE NATAL CLINICS
• Your clinic can log patient personal details
• Enter weight and blood pressure so these can be monitored through the pregnancy
• Examination or other details e.g. patient fears or birth requests can all be entered free text under observations.
• We have 7 codes searchable for antenatal care and 4 further codes for perinatal care

6.    WOMEN'S HEALTH CLINICS
• Logging of personal details and general observations
• History and examination in free text
• Simple searches available

7.    HEALTH OUTPOSTS MONITORING NUTRITION
• Where outposts use non-medical community members there is still a role for logging patient personal details to start a data base.
• Simple measurements like height and weight and upper arm circumference can be logged and provide means of monitoring nutritional state in individuals or communities

8.    CRISIS SITUATIONS
• Refugee health monitoring with hand held androids recording personal details and medical conditions

9.    SOME HOSPITALS CAN BENEFIT
• Look at the dummy system and see if this simple but robust system would help your work.
